Besitos.
Each cheek.
The visit is over.
There’s a pause, a second too long.
The patient gestures
silently
that her boyfriend is hiding in the bedroom.
He has a
deportation order.
It was her
fear
that I had been trying
to diagnose.
I am silenced by
tears filling our eyes. I
reach out,
emptied now.
