I leave the house early, walk all day
My landlord can’t know I don’t have work,
 Can’t pay my rent.
Tears streak her cheeks
Not a chief complaint learned in medical school
I gulp back my fear of helplessness, lay back the exam table, turn off the light
the room is hers for the day.
