My daughter hangs upside down in a tree.
I wait for the fall
hoping we do not land in the ER.
I wait, just like I waited this past week
in a hospital, eerily devoid of visitors,
for the wave of COVID patients.
Will they overwhelm,
or will we “flatten the curve”?
I wait while balancing roles—
parent, doctor, teacher;
doctor, teacher, parent;
teacher, parent, doctor—
and hope we have saved lives.
She lands feet first.
