“Hey,” my patient says,
“I’m over here.”

As I type, I recall
the 95 year old physician
who told me of his first
patient records;
3 x 5 index cards that held
everything he needed to know
on paper.
The rest was held in the vault
of lived experience—
treating the entire family,
celebrating at weddings,
mourning at funerals,
cheering at ball games,
strolling the fair grounds.

“Be with you in a second—
I need to fix the
autocorrect on the HER. EHR.”
